Statement by Minister for Crime Prevention regarding powers of local communities
Following the news that the Home Office has been given full responsibility for alcohol licensing and enforcement. Minister for Crime Prevention James Brokenshire has said: ‘The Government believes that the power to make licensing decisions needs to be rebalanced in favour of local communities, so that they can decide on the night-time economy they want.’
I will be writing to the Minister to make him aware of the innovative way in which Westminster City Council has addressed this issue by funding the Licensing Advice Project.
